The Office of Surface Mining Reclamation and Enforcement (OSMRE) is preparing an Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) to evaluate the proposed mine plan modification for a federal coal lease at Spring Creek Mining in Montana. They’ve developed four alternatives, three of which pose significant risks to Spring Creek's operations, and that could establish a terrible precedent for mining operations on all federal lands. OSMRE is currently accepting public comments on its draft EIS.
